Demystify the complexities of the art world. "The Global Art World" is an intensive introduction to the Art World, led by art historian, curator, author, and journalist Viv Lawes who has over 25 years of experience in the art market.
Learn how the art market ecology and its components fit together. The course will cover sectors such as state and private museums, galleries and foundations set alongside the commercial market. It will survey the phenomenon of biennials, triennials, and documenta-style platforms alongside art fairs as the increasingly primary means of circulation and consumption of art in the 21st century.
Digital art is contextualized within more traditional media, while the concept of materiality is considered as a current form of theoretical positioning and curatorial strategy. The course will culminate by exploring how security and logistics are a significant issue in the increasingly visible and culturally powerful art world.
This course is done in partnership with Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
This course is ideal for people who are interested in the art world, creative industries, and connected sectors.
