Misk Art Institute calls for graphic designers and artists to spend four weeks at the Masaha studios (Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall) to explore Arabic typography and its creative possibilities through graphic design.
This one-month residency offers mentorship, masterclasses, workshops, discussions, and critique sessions to support the development of original projects or research focused on Arabic typography.
Participants will develop and present an original project or research focused on Arabic typography, which will be showcased inside their studios at the end of this micro-residency.
Who's it for?
Full-time graphic designers or visual artists who meet some or all of the following:
3+ years of professional experience in typographical practices
Actively practicing and engaging in the design field
Demonstrated interest or experience in Arabic typography
The applicants must also be fully committed to prioritizing this four-week program, with no exceptions.
Program Structure
Weekly mentorship sessions with experienced designers specializing in Arabic typography
A masterclass covering topics relevant to contemporary Arabic typography and concept development
Weekly meetings for informal networking and knowledge sharing
Development of project and budget proposals with guidance from mentors
Networking sessions via studio visits by experienced designers and design practitioners
A critique session with an external collaborator to provide constructive feedback and insights
