What can art do for nature? What can environmental studies teach us about art?

This five-day masterclass will offer a preliminary introduction to these questions through examining ecocritical art practices in the Arab World, done in partnership with the American University of Cairo.

Guided by Dr. Elizabeth Rauh, participants will examine and engage with influential texts and histories to explore how ecocritical art history was formed.

This course covers:

  • Indigenous modernism

  • Global landscape traditions

  • Material approaches to art

  • The visual culture of science and industry

  • The “Eco-Art” of environmental activism

Who's it for?

Early career creative practitioners, curators, art historians, and writers.
